Default Attack on Ascalon

I think a good idea would be an attack on some place like Ascalon. One even for maybe a day or two where Charr and everything else outside of Ascalon come in and take over. Then you have to fight in Ascalon and regain control. Would be interesting with places like Droks and LA as well.

So an event kind of thing?

Its a noval idea, but I dont see how it would work. If your talking about having a weekend event, then it doesnt seem realistic to have an endless number of char invading ascalon because that would just get boring eventually.

And what if a district is empty of humans? do they char just take over?

Or would you have them attack perdiodicly and we have to defend the city once every hour, and if we loose they take the city?

The issue then is how do we re-take it?
or does it just reset?
Whats the gain?
What do we get for doing it?

What if aboslutely no one takes part, and after the 2 days the char are still
controlling the city? do they just magically vanish come monday?

What level would the creatures be?

Sorry alot of question marks. Its not a bad idea, but I just think it wouldnt make sense realistically and storywise.

This idea is being worked on from GW2 from what I could interpret. Sounds really cool.

How about once every two weeks the charr make a co ordinated assault on Ascalon (although which day within that two week period is random), and during that time all NPC's (except quest NPC's) can not be used (no Armour can be created, can not sell loot to merchants etc) until the charr have been pushed back, and for every charr you slay you get a 'charr slayers token' and then you can redeem these for your basic salvage kits, Id kits etc. or if you redeem 100 you get a customized perfect weapon, for 1000 you get a unique skinned perfect weapon and after redeeming 100,000 you get a title and maybe one piece of max Armour with a unique skin. to get around them simply disapearing say that they have retreated to regroup and lick their wounds, but the charr are a stubborn race and it will not be long until they return to try and take Ascalon again. the same concept could go with the White mantle and the HoD (maybe a return of the HoD sword?) or Droks and the stone summit. And if no one takes part the charr don't leave and all NPC's cower in fear.

Maybe remove DP when killed by the Charr inside a city, and have a mixture of high level, 20-25, and low level, 5-15, enemies, with the occasional boss. and have the higher level enemies have a higher chance to drop the tokens or give more, to prevent echo meteor showering lots of level 5 enemies to get the unique rewards in no time

Love the idea of an attack once a week (not at same time for people at work/on nights so they don't miss them all) and if you succsessfully defend it rains Spoils of War (same idea as the gift boxes single use gift inside ect)

BUT this would take a lot of doing as ...
A) Weapons would have to be wheilded in town
B) Skills would have to be active in town

BUT the BUT's can be fixed by an AB setting where once a week (or whatever) you can speak to the "Defend (town)" NPC who will transport you to a AB type outpost upto 30mins before event then everyone there at the event start is spawned in a version of (town) with LOTS of (native foes) attacking. And it could be done in waves and gifts are given for number of waves survived

IDEAS for native attackers
Ascalon - Charr of course
Yaks Bend - Stone Summit
LA - Skeletons and Bone Dragons
Henge of Denravi - Wind Riders and Jungle Trolls
Amnoon Oasis - Minotors, Hydra and Scarabs
Droks - Ice Golems, Avicar (the big birds my spelling of these foe is bad)
Ember Light Camp - Fire Imps, Fire spider things (name may come back to me)

Shing Jea Monestary - Naga, Yetis
Kaineng Center - Afflicted
House Zu Heltzer - Assorted forest plantlife and some Juggonoughts
Cavalon - Assorted Fish and Liviathon Claws
Maybe House zu and Cavalon reversed so it's the opposite faction attacking

Kamadam - Plants, Mandragors and some skale
Sunspear Sanctury - Insects (want there nest back)
Kodash Bazaar - Harpies
Gate of Desolation/Bone Palace (desolation doesn't have a capital as such) - Margonites
Maybe Gate Of Anguish - Torment Critters

Each wave gets harder
Wave 1 - Lvl 5's - 1 gift
Wave 2 - Lvl 10's - 2 gifts (total)
Wave 3 - Lvl 15's - 3 gifts
Wave 4 - Lvl 20's - 4 gifts
Wave 5 - Lvl 25's - 6 gifts

This is proposed at have LOTS of foes 50-100 at a time and a party of WAY more than 12 (current max correct me if wrong)
I think the one thing GW is missing is epic scale battles (loved Siege of Beknur Harbor and The Battle of Turias Precesion) with huge numbers of foes and allies clashing like this

The gifts could contain something thats no real good like Common materials or somthing people won't AFK farm for or just points to a Defender Title (if there isn't one - o theres Legendary Defender of . . . -hmm how about something about Repelling them with out saying our chars are repulsive ) but people would AFK farm that. Maybe if they had there normal drops people wouldn't get anything for AFK'ing as there drops would go free after 10mins

No respawn OR limited respawn PER PERSON where they can watch others once they die on 60% DP or 5 times or whatever limit is ( surely the DP system can be modifyed to say "You have died twice" instead of "I Have 30% DP") - but you get ress IF defense was a sucsess to pick up your drops + if you die part way through wave 3 and the defense goes until complete you should get 3 gifts as even though you died in Wave 3 you still helped and should be rewarded as such

Well i had fun writing my ideas down (which is good as it's just going to get flamed to death "IF YOU WANT RAIDS GO TO WOW" but it's and idea to expand on the OP's)
and Gaile Gray feel free to tell me this is impossible or just not going to happen but theres a year between GW:EN and GW2 and i'd be happy with this over another chapter (but that doesn't make Anet the cash to pay staff so maybe a Defender slot must be perchased for accout?)

EDIT : Like the token idea Miss Glads (sorry i started post before yours but then went out for 7hours lol) maybe where i wrote "Gifts" or "their normal drops" should be replaced with Tokens and wepon traded for tokens should be Customised and the 'tokens' should be a slider bar like Faction that you can redeem but can't trade to stop people AFK farming and selling for LOTS of cash. I also like the NPC's cower until done as that means it HAS to be done adding realism (lol while casting meteors but i mean adds realism to the world of GW's). Also the (QUOTE) they have retreated to regroup and lick their wounds, but the (native attackers) are a stubborn race and it will not be long until they return to try and take (town) again (end quote - edited Ascalon for (town) and "charr" for (native attackes) in 'quote') Seemed rather funny and like something GW would have in it

EDIT2 : Tokens or Defence reputation numbers for reward value would need tweeking and are only rough

EDIT3 : Maybe Reputation could be made at each town defendable or each continant and can be traded for wepons ect or like faction to become
R1 - Meat Shield of Ascalon
R2 - Foot Soldier of Ascalon
R3 - Running out of ideas need Anets development team to help please
But hopefully you get the idea i'm trying to put across (i'll stop editing now)

I'm thinking more of an AB styled fight, without the faction hate between luxons and kurzx. And that whole, "lock the Npc's" idea needs to go. We fight in the city, but it's a leasure thing. (we're in LA for this example) AB rules apply and you basically have towers (sorta) where there are 2 NPC rangers and 2 NPC wars. The tower has a wall around it and it's basically a cap point. You can have the docks, the merchant area and the fountain be points. You start out where the entrance would be and you have to fight, with 11 other people, lvl 5-20 monsters. You then have to cap the points and stop the charr that are leaking from the entrance too. ok let me describe this more clearly.

You talk to the Town Defense npc and get transported to a waiting area. You click "Enter Battle" and you randomly get paired with 11 other people.

The battle starts and you get a screny that says that LA (or w/e town) has been over run by monsters and that you have to capture town points, while defending the city. You pop-up near the entrance and have 10 minutes to cap all three points, kill the monsters already in the city, and fight off the monster waves that come in every 2 minutes.

You gain Town defender points that can be redeemed for items like cc's and ales and stuff. You can also gain titles for defense points. Each point grants you + something, whether it health, energy or speed. Everyone rezes every 20 seconds, and you can't gain Town Defense points if you are dead. so You can't afk, cause you'll die, and the spawn point it directly in the path of the monster waves so you can only gain so many points. You however, suffer from no DP.

(ignores #6 as its talking about the opposite to what i liked)
new idea if defence failed last time your attacking to retake next time
Still like the idea of +12 teams give an epic side to GW we supposed to be heroes but anyone could kill foes 1-4 at a time (sounded wrong - murder is bad but my point the still there)

Make it like a mission thing. Get a group of 4-8 people (depending on where you are) and click a button like "Defend" or something.

Could make it like a once a week thing, or maybe even once A day, on random cities. Maybe have the city taken over and you have to attack it and take it back.

Make new greens or maybe just rare items like gods and crafting materials. Or make it completely random, so you could get a tribal blade dmg 3-4, or a Staff 11-22 Health +30 nrg 15/-1. Maybe that or factions, something for PvP.

Have rounds or waves like JeniM suggested.

Would be fun if they just invade the town/outpost. I love to see the response of those pre-searing people who just got to post-searing and the charrs are having a huge scale war.

"What the hell, i was killed for no reason"
"Ahhh, why are charrs here. Help me, someone heal me please"

That would be fun.

Its sounding alot more like it should be a side game! Similar to the roller beatles. Something you can access by speaking to an NPC in Tyria somewhere and it teleports you to a starting area where you build a team.

But I would suggest make it lvl20 only and have them complete the game first.

I can be a 16 man team affair, where you have to defend an outpost or a city from the char. Have the reward be a scoring system like challenges in Factions...

The more char you kill,
The longer your survive,
The more NPCs you keep alive,

...the higher up the ranks you go. Then it gets competitive! We dont need more greens, or weapon types!

You could even have options to fight different foes. The char, the margonites, Shiros spirits, UW creatures. You pick the location, and you pick the creatures and then you fight them for as long as you can.

Kind of a personalised, build your own scenario thing!

Some aspect of all this would be a great event weekend. Siege of Ascalon, with even the outlying Ascalon areas having roaming groups of Charr along with larger detatchments and siege weaponry etc, just to change up from what is normally out there. Maybe a couple event-specific quests as well.

Perhaps too its not an event weekend as much as its a side game spin-off, as some others have mentioned, more like AB.

I'd like to see some things like this though that are event weekends to mix in with the sort of "checkbox" events that are turned on or off every weekend like double exp skill capture weekends. Nice to have sure, but as described in this thread, this is an event.

But if you make it more competitive people only want certain professions and all yell at 'noobs'

Agreed. For this, I lean more towards making it an elaborate event weekend rather than an entrenched entity. Keep it new and fresh. If it goes off well, repeat it with some variation every so often. I also prefer it to be non-competitive in nature and more all-inclusive, but that's just me. I only echoed the AB remark because someone raised it and I can see that working as well. It certainly involves needing to fight some Charr, however it all would work out, so groups would have to be made. It might in fact group people randomly from within town.

One could then of course form normal groups to go outside and fight the Charr in the zones outside Ascalon. They'd need to be high enough level to pose a decent challenge to level 20's in normal mode, with hard mode counterparts. Certainly there'd be the Charr commander out there somewhere which should be a big deal to beat, possibly with a reward for that, but its important I think that the event includes activity within Ascalon as a Siege and heading out into zones is but an additional activity one could do.

I always wanted the Charr to come back and invade.

Hmm, how a Nebo type city (no zone plenty of NPC's) you have to get there by being transported (ie... The Deep, Urgoz, FoW, UW).

The waves come in at a given time (a message similar to who runs Halls) come across;

" The ____ (insert creature of choice) are on the perimeter of ______ (insert city) and will arrive at ______ (insert time), _______ (Ruler of Area) has requested all available citizens to help defend ______ (city)."

Very WoWesque, but sounds fun none the less!!!!

The ONLY thing i like about WoW is the idea of huge get togethers. 'Raids' i belive they call them. Check anyother post i've made an i'm against all the add cooking and cleaning crap that WoW has but this idea is the one thing from WoW i would be happy to see in GW
